Q.Does a Mini have an immobilizer ?

A.Yes, here is a list of MINI ANTI THEFT (IMMOBILIZER) SYSTEMS - Mini and Bmw share the same immobilizer systems.

EWS: "Driveaway Protection System"started as early as 1993.

CAS:"Car Access System"

FEM/BDC:"Front Electronic Module"

Above listed all Mini's Anti-Theft systems, all of them have the same principal of operation but the programming procedure is different for each and every one.

*Principal of Operation:

A transponder chip is integrated in each of the vehicle keys. A ring coil is fitted about the ignition lock. The transponder chip is powered by this coil. This means that no battery is necessary in the key. The power supply and data transfer take place in the same way as a transformer between the loop antenna (coil) at the ignition lock and the transponder chip.

Q.Does Mini immobilizer requires programming ?

A.Yes.

Q.Can I program the key myself ?

A.No, but for older Mini's with EWS system it's possible to program the remote only it will not start the car but will control the lock and unlock functions, you can try programming the remote yourself click HERE to watch a youtube video on how to.

Q.Where can I get a Mini key replacement?

A:Mini key replacement can only be done by an Automotive Locksmith or the Dealer, we provide service for all of Mini'S Immobilizer system

Q.How to sync a Mini key I got from the dealer ? (will NOT work for keys bought online - dealer by vin only).
